Often when christians first hear about reiki they might think that it is a separate religion or that practicing it will go against the bible, but nothing could be further from the truth. Reiki is universal and not associated with any religions although you may find similarities in teachings of healing and love. Reiki respects the free will of every living thing, so no matter how hard you try to send it, if someone isn't open to its healing, it will respect their wishes and disperse back into the Earth and Universe. Reiki can be described as the power and will that comes directly from God, the universal creator and Holy Spirit. There are many Reiki practitioners who follow christianity and who follow the teachings of the Bible. Most of those same practitioners would also tell you that practicing Reiki has brought them closer to God and their spiritual beliefs, stating that Reiki has helped them to "feel" the presence of God instead of only reading about it. Most practitioners (even those who don't' follow any particular religion) generally start and end sessions with a prayer of some sort, calling for the giver to put aside their ego to help channel the healing and loving energy of Reiki/God for the highest good of the receiver. Once the session is over, thanks is usually given to the source of this energy for the healing provided, I.E. to God.
The Bible says, as I give, so I receive. The very act of giving Reiki is holy in itself, as it is the very fundamental philosophy of Christianity. I Corinthians 12:1 "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed." Shortly after this passage in the Bible ( I Corinthians 12:4-12) Paul speaks of "Gifts of the Spirit" that include speaking wisdom and knowledge, as well as the power to heal. Because of this, there are many Christians who are looking to hands-on energy healing practices and reference John 14:12 as their guiding scripture. "I am telling you the truth: whoever believes in me will do as I do - yes, he will do even greater things because I am going to the father.". Other examples of healing touch in the Bible are found in the chapters Matthew, Mark, and Luke, where Jesus uses touch to heal Peter's mother-in-law of a fever, he heals a man with leprosy, as well as multiple blind people, a deaf and mute man, and even raised people from the dead! These of course would be defined as miracles, and though miracles do happen, this is where one needs to be careful in promising any kind of results when using Reiki as we cannot claim to know the will of God, or pretend that Reiki gives us the power to act on His behalf.
Reiki healers are merely a conduit for this divine energy, they do not tell Reiki where to go or what to heal, only ensure that the energy reaches every part of the body so the divine energy, can do God's work. Practitioners can help to provide comfort, healing, and occasionally miracles happen but it is important to remember that it is never the work of the giver, always the work of God, the universal energy of Reiki. Knowing this is also important for the receiver, as we can never know what God has planned for us so it's vital to cast aside your personality, ego, and expectations on how you think you need to be healed. Trust in your maker, He knows best so if you have found yourself learning about Reiki energy, this may be His answer for whatever questions you've been asking yourself. William Rand, who is the head of the International Center for Reiki Training, has created a website on Christian Reiki in order to address common concerns about Reiki. You can browse through a variety of different articles showing how Reiki and christianity can be an amazing integration, as well as Bishops' statements on reiki, Preists', ministers, and nuns who practice Reiki, along with other Catholic/Christian values and how they relate with Reiki. You can also check out bible verses that talk about hands-on healing. I Corinthians 14:1 "Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy."

Yes, God promotes love, healing, and acceptance of all people and encourages his followers to do as Him. Reiki can do no harm, it only relaxes, calms, and heals.

Reiki can be used as an aid to prayer, blessing food, drink, items, as well as helping to protect yourself from negative energy or entities that wish you harm. When giving or receiving Reiki, call upon God to do His work through you. You can also reach out to any Angels that you have built relationships with to help be your guides.
There are some similarities one can draw when looking at Reiki and its principles verses may different religions, however Reiki is not a religion and is not tied to any religions. Reiki promotes wellbeing and love which can aid in ones personal religious practice as Reiki can be utilized with any belief system as long as that belief system doesn't intend harm on others, because, well, Reiki just can't do that.
Christianity actually does use symbols in the form of the cross as well as the fish. In Catholic faith, people even form the cross over their chest to help empower them with God's protection. The Reiki symbols help the practitioner to access different Reiki energy and since Reiki comes directly from God himself, these symbols will help you connect to God on a deeper level.
Dr. Mikao Usui who is one of the founders of most Reiki styles today was a practicing Buddhist, however, he was very accepting of every religion and didn't discriminate against those who had different beliefs when they came to him for teaching. He taught that Reiki is free from religion and works well with every belief and deity that promotes good will, healing, and love.
Absolutely not. Cults are loosely described as "religious devotion towards something that's regarded as strange or sinister." Even with that broad definition of what a cult is, Reiki practice already doesn't fit the mould because Reiki energy can do no harm, therefore, has nothing sinister involved. Plus the fact that Reiki isn't tied to any type of religion other than the practitioners own beliefs and how they choose to apply them together. If that isn't enough to convince you we'll look at tell-tale signs of a Cult a bit closer. There is usually one sole leader who directs the entire group of followers, generally, this person would have all the power in decision making and authority. They will also force you to give up your personal beliefs, some cults also force sexual exploitation or other abuse such as labor violations, medical neglect, child abuse, extreme isolation, and can sometimes be as serious as mass suicide. In essence, cults do so much harm on its members whereas Reiki can only promote healing, love, and peace.
